THE 1895 VERMONT ROADBOOK: A COMIC INTERPRETATION, 2021

This is a special ‘zine project that weaves together comics and book arts. It is three-dimensional and interactive, with an internal pop-up and a 9 foot accordion fold! It comes in a special pouch.

The Vermont Road Book.

In 1895, the Vermont Division of the League of American Wheelmen published its ‘road book.’ Bad roads were anathema to late-19th century wheelmen and women, and road books offered curated routes and advice about road conditions and amenities along the way. An original copy resides in the Vermont Historical Society archives. Modeled closely on the original, my comic interpretation takes you on one its routes, from Burlington to Alburgh Springs, following a couple as they encounter many misadventures along the way!
